Obituary

Norie Seino, 70, of Sun City, Huntley, Illinois, unexpectedly passed away from a subarachnoid hemorrhage on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Northwestern Medical Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois.

She was born on September 3, 1947 in Japan, the daughter of Yasuichi and Tomie Matsumiya. She grew up in Ageki with two older brothers and a younger sister and in school ran track and played volleyball. She married Kazuo “Casey” Seino and shortly thereafter, in the early 1970’s, they immigrated to the United States, first to New Jersey and then to the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Norie was an exceptional mother, a devoted wife, and a woman of many talents. Her love for sewing and fashion led her to working in sales for many years at The Little Traveler in Geneva, Illinois. When she and Casey moved to Huntley in 2005, she was a vibrant member of the community, involved in several groups, including knitting, numerous art clubs, and tennis leagues. She was most known for her generous heart and for sharing her gifts, time, and creativity to her many friends. Though gentle in spirit, she was a fierce competitor on the tennis court.

She is survived by her husband, Casey, her daughter, Dr. Kathy Seino of Pullman, Washington, her mother, Tomie, her sister, Taeko, and brother, Yasunori. She was preceded in death by her father, her brother Kinji and her niece Eri Yamaguchi.

A Memorial Gathering celebrating her life will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31st at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. Your mother and I enjoyed so many laughs and tears together. We played tennis together and we had a knitting group that we enjoyed once a month. Norie was a good friend and I will miss her in my life.

Norie was my friend, my art partner, my knitting group companion and of course, one of our great tennis group team members. She was a humble, kind and generous woman who shared her gifts willingly with her friends. My fond memories include an amazing Japanese luncheon she made for our knitting group, redoing my knitting mistakes, laughing in our art courses, trips to Little Travelers, designing knitting projects to make for Kathy, diligent care for Casey, resizing an impossible to do blouse for me, remaking an ancient kimona to raise funds, introducing me to the art of alcohol ink and so much more. My heart aches to know she is no longer on our earth lighting up her environment and being with her friends..although in spirit she will never be forgotten. All our love to you, Kathy, as you carry on the legacy your dear mother left for you.
