Obituary

Nelville Quam, Jr., 93 passed away peacefully January 26, 2018 at Hearthstone Manor in Woodstock.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Lorraine, daughter, Judy and parents Nelville and Helen Quam.
Although he had no siblings, Nelville had three lifelong friends, Clayton Richard, Walter Blank and Art Berg. They too preceded Nel in death.
He is survived by his daughter, Gail (Susan Blotch) and “Sadie”- grand dog and by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Nelville attended Austin High School in Chicago. He joined the Army Air Corp in 1943 and served through 1946. Nel’s training was in radios, electricity and radar. Nel served in Togga, Italy where he inspected communication systems on B17’s. He became the inspector for the base and achieved the rank of Staff Sargent. Upon returning from the service, he met Ruth Lorraine Clausen at a wedding and he knew immediately she was the one. They were married on February 5, 1949 and shared 68 anniversaries together. They will celebrate their 69th with a huge reunion in heaven.
Nel worked for the “Jewel Tea Company” for 35 years. He was a meat cutter and became a manager at numerous stores in the city and suburbs. Nel was always a well-organized man and made an excellent manager who expected perfection. Nel retired in 1987. Nel and Lorraine enjoyed 30 years of traveling, reading, boating and being with friends and family.
Service will be held Saturday April 21, 2018, 2pm at Shepherd of the Priarie Lutheran Church. Visitation will be at Church from 1pm until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Shepherd of the Prairie or Hearthstone, or Kindred Hospice.
