Obituary

George W. Hellner, 74 of Huntley, passed away at his home on Saturday morning, April 7, 2018.

He was born February 22, 1944 in Berwyn, the son of Paul and Naoma (Paradee) Hellner. He grew up in Berwyn and following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. George transitioned to the Air National Guard and was an aviation mechanic at O’Hare Airport, later retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. Prior to his retirement, George served in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. He then moved to Huntley and was an active and respected member of the Huntley American Legion. George especially enjoyed his annual spring and fall fishing trips in northern Wisconsin with his friends and son.

He is survived by his son, Daniel and his wife, Elizabeth (Crane) Hellner of Grayslake. George was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Paulette, one sister and two brothers.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 2:00 until a 3:00 p.m. Time of Sharing followed by military rites by the Huntley American Legion Post #673 on Saturday, April 14th at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. Burial will be at a later date in Windridge Cemetery, Cary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Huntley American Legion or the American Diabetes Association.
