Obituary

Lorraine N. Taylor, 90 of Huntley, Illinois, formerly of Niles, Michigan, passed away at her home in Huntley on Friday, June 2, 2017 following a lengthy illness.

She was born January 30, 1927 on a small farm in Florence, Alabama, the daughter of Emery and Ozalean (Goins) Nichols. She moved with her family at an early age to Chicago and later South Bend, Indiana. She graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend in 1944 and then attended Florence Teachers College in Alabama. She was united in marriage to Donald R. Taylor in South Bend. The couple raised their family and made their home in Galien, Michigan and in the early 1960’s, Niles. Lorraine returned to college when her children were grown and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana in 1972. After graduation, she taught at Edwardsburg High School in Michigan and later worked in the Office of Special Programs for the theater department at her Alma Mater (Saint Mary’s College). Lorraine was active for many years in both community theatre in Niles and South Bend and in liturgical theatre at her church, Trinity United Methodist in Niles. In 2013 she moved to Huntley, Illinois to be close to family. She was an accomplished seamstress, making many of her children’s clothes, was an excellent actress and she loved and adored her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, James (Daphne) Taylor of Huntley and Nancy Taylor of Lincoln, Nebraska and her grandchildren, Matthew and Alan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald and her brother, Nick Nichols.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 7th at Christ United Methodist Church, 9009 Algonquin Road, Algonquin. Burial will be at a later date in Niles, Michigan.
