Obituary

Lois B. Cavanagh, 82 of Huntley, died peacefully, June 20, 2017 surrounded by the love of her family.
Lois was born January 9, 1935 in Rochester, New York the daughter of Lewis and Marion Butler. On April 25, 1959 she married Leo Cavanagh, the couple met at an Eastman Kodak Christmas party and were engaged a year later. She was a member of both St. Mary Church and St. Joseph’s Church (MI), an avid golfer, tennis player and a Cubs fan. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandma. Lois was “Grandma Loie” not only to her own grandchildren, but to all who knew her.
Family was the pride and joy of her life. Her happy places included the Lake house on Klinger Lake, the Florida Panhandle, and the sidelines or bleachers of her grandchildren’s events. She was the ultimate sports fan. Visits with Grandma Loie were long, and her Irish goodbyes even longer. She was blessed with many lifelong friends, a large extended family, and adored all of the family dogs.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Leo, her children, Margi (Bill) Stovall and Mike (Patty) Cavanagh, by her four grandchildren, Carly, Hanna, Katie and Jack. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews dear to her heart, and sister-in-law Joan. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jack, sister, Mary Ann, and beloved brothers and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at St. Mary Church in Huntley from 9-10:00am followed by a 10:00am Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 16603 E. Chicago Rd., White Pigeon, Michigan, 49099. Funds will be used for St. Joe’s Cares, a community outreach charity set up by Loie’s dear friend, Sister Max McGee.
