Lee (Harry) and I were cousins. Our fathers were brothers, born in the dust bowl depression farm fields of South Dakota. Lee and I each had good childhoods. My memories are filled with happy, fun family events. We lacked for nothing, and our lives were surrounded with love. Of the three boys born the brothers Harry and Edwin Geffert, Lee was always the leader in games and at play. Bigger, stronger, and with a fearlessness that I could never emulate, Lee represented to me the strength and courage that our grandparents needed to survive in a hostile environment. I didn't see much of Lee after we were teenagers. As happens in life, we drifted apart. We lived separate lives; but I never forgot his strength. I know that Lee must have had great strength as he neared the end of his life, but this may be of little comfort today to those he has left behind. To Cynthia, Jonathon, and Jaclyn, please accept my deepest sympathies and condolences. I will treasure the happy memories I have of Lee, and I encourage you to do the same. It is now our job to pass along his strength to others. I will never forget him, and his memory will live on through me and everyone else in the world he touched.
