Healy, Richard Joseph Jr.
Richard Joseph Healy Jr., 97 of Lakewood, Illinois formerly of Schaumburg, Morton Grove, and Bridgeport in Chicago, Illinois passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, 11/22/2017.
He was born on June 19, 1920 at home on Lyman Street in Bridgeport of a strong Irish heritage family. Richard’s parents were Mary (nee Hobin) Healy and Richard Healy Sr. Richard attended St. Bridget’s Catholic Elementary and St. Ignatius high school.
Richard served in the United States Army as a Supply Sergeant during World War II and his service was the overarching event that shaped much of his life. Richard entered Europe via the Normandy beaches not long after D-Day and remained in France until after VE Day.
Richard’s work life was rooted in the furniture and home décor sales and service businesses. He worked at Sears where he met the love of his life Raffaela (Rae) Cone. They were married on 11/12/1960. He and Rae had their own storefront and Dick also held a number of sales positions at Plunkett’s Furniture.
Richard was a devout Catholic, 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #11666, Catholic War Veteran, member of the American Legion Post #1983, member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, supportive brother, loving husband, doting father, and friend to all. He loved a good party with his friends and family, his dry martinis, and holding court spinning stories and tales late into the night.
Richard is survived by his wife of 57 wonderful years Raffaela Healy, daughters Marie-Ellen Hull (son-in-law Timothy Hull) and Kathleen Healy; Grandchildren Brittany, Andrew, and Connor Hull; Sister Mary Agnes Healy of Morton Grove; Brother Robert J. Healy (the late Eleanore Healy) of Rolling Meadows; Sister-in-law Gloria Marion (the late Fred Marion), Godchildren Patti Rochford, Laura Marion, Mary Rita Healy, and Bridget Healy LaPietra; Nephews Fred Michael Marion, Jim Healy, and John Healy; and many grandnieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; siblings Rita, Patricia, and John Healy, and Baby Richard.
Visitation for Richard J. Healy will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 3:00 to 8:00PM at DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley, Illinois 60142. Visitation will continue from 9:00 to 10:00AM followed by Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntley on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 10:00AM. Burial will occur at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery in Palatine following the Mass.

Richard will truly be missed. I loved hearing his stories of Bridgeport, Maxwell Street, and the Great Depression. Theirs was a typical American family who came through some difficult times to become the Greatest Generation. God bless him.
