William L. Allen

Obituary

William L. Allen, 93, died peacefully at his home in West Dundee, IL on April 8, 2024. He joins his beloved wife, Barbara Elizabeth Allen, in heaven.

Bill was born on September 21, 1930, in Chicago, IL. He was one of seven children and grew up in the Lakeview neighborhood. Bill attended Lemoyne Grammar School and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1949. He was enrolled at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI on a football scholarship. In 1952 Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Camp Roberts, CA, in the Finance Corp. Upon his discharge in 1954, at Ft. Lewis, WA, he was awarded the National Service Medal and achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant. Bill would return to his studies at the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana where he would graduate with a degree from the College of Commerce in 1956.

While attending his high school reunion, Bill was unaware he would meet the love of his life and a fellow classmate, Barbara Wimer. They married in February 1962 and welcomed a family shortly thereafter with the blessing of three daughters. In 1968 Bill and Barbara bought a home in Schaumburg, IL to begin raising their family.

Bill was a 55-year member of the Chicago Board of Trade. He worked his way up from clerk to trader and broker in the grain pits, eventually purchasing a full membership on the Exchange in 1968.

In retirement, Bill enjoyed reading, traveling, good conversation and ending the day with his favorite drink - Jack Daniels on the rocks with a twist! A life-long Chicago Cub fan, Bill considered himself blessed having a wonderful mother, uncle, wife and three daughters.

Bill is survived by his three daughters, Susan (Brian) Davenport, Barbara (Keith) Loeffler and Mary Allen and four grandchildren, Ryan (Olivia) Davenport, Kelly Davenport, Megan Loeffler and Patrick Loeffler. He is survived as well by his younger brother, Edward McCarthy Allen of Castle Rock, CO.

The family will receive visitors on Friday – April 19, 2024 from 9:00 - 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road in Huntley.

Mr Allen was such a funny man.. He gave me different names like Sugar, he called me George Washington ( probably maybe because I look like a man) he told me I dress like Republicans . If he has his way, he wanted everyone to be a Republican. What an amazing person. I feel so lucky that I got to know him. Mary, thank you for being nice to all the caregivers that took care of your dad and thank you too for taking care of him,my prayers are with you and your family at this difficult moment .
