Obituary

Carl F. Brooks, 82 of Hampshire, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

He was born March 3, 1935 in Pepin, Wisconsin, the son of Glenn T. and Carol F. (Smith) Brooks. He was raised and educated in Pepin, graduating from Pepin High School in 1953. He graduated from Stout State University. On August 24, 1957, he was united in marriage to Audrey Jean Reinecke in Menomonie. The couple made their home in Algonquin and Carl began his teaching career in the Industrial Education Department at Dundee High School, later he became head of transportation for District 300. He was a Mott Foundation Scholar and continued to further his education, working on his doctorate. He returned to District 300 to become principal at Hampshire High School. The couple moved to a home Carl built in Hampshire in 1979. He retired from education in 1990. He was a member of the Northern Illinois Steam Power Club, the Hampshire Lions, he served on the Hampshire Township Board and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey of Hampshire, his children, Kim (Mike) Gavigan, Scott (Sharon) Brooks all of Algonquin, and Melissa (John) Mini of Huntley, his grandchildren, Kira, Hiliary, Mike, Michelle & Erin. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Bob, Glenn, Dennis & Pat.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. with a 4:00 p.m. funeral service on Monday, December 4th at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. Private family burial will be in Hampshire Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be used to establish a future scholarship at Hampshire High School, honoring Carl. Saddened to hear of the passing of a wonderful man who guided our children through high school and always exhibited a professional, caring attitude.
